MATCH RESULTS
2007 Back to this year
Norfolk v Suffolk at Aldeburgh Sun 24th JuneDespite very wet and windy conditions, the Norfolk Junior Girls 1st team fought hard to achieve a very creditable draw with Suffolk Junior Girls at Aldeburgh last Sunday. Rebecca Heeles played extremely well to win her match on the 14th, whilst Emma Davies and Jennifer Hide had to dig deep to draw their matches against opponents who fought back very hard over the closing holes. It was left to Hannah Groom to sink her final putt to go one up and to clinch the overall draw for Norfolk. The final match of the season, against Cambs and Hunts, will take place at Swaffham on the 29th September, when Suffolk will also play Bedford.
Result: Match drawn Norfolk 3 - Suffolk 3 Second Team match result (Greensome Foursomes) Meanwhile the 2nd team, playing on the 9 hole course at Aldeburgh, achieved their second win of the season, having previously beaten Bedford at The Norfolk Golf Club in April. Rachel Hide, age 11, acted as reserve.

Norfolk v Bedfordshire at The Norfolk 22nd April
Our girls put up a strong fight but lost 2-4 to strong opposition.
The match results (Norfolk first) are as follows:-
2006
Midlands Matchplay Finals
After winning the Midlands Division 3 (Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Cambs & Hunts) the Junior girls were invited to play the Midlands Matchplay Finals.
On 22 October we travelled to John O’Gaunt for the Finals, which consisted of two matchplay competitions and an individual stableford over 16 holes, to be played on 23 and 24 October. Our competitors were Staffordshire and Lincolnshire, winners of their respective regions.
For our very young Norfolk team this was a great opportunity to get experience wider afield.
The team members were:
Edwina Lowrey-Gold (3) Eaton
Tiffany Howie (4) Captain Marriott Sprowston Manor
Emma Davies (9) Eaton
Ceri Davies (11) Eaton
Rebecca Heeles (12) Royal Norwich
Jennifer Hide (14) Royal Norwich
Hannah Groom (16) Swaffham
All the matches were played off scratch, and the opposition was tough. Despite this, Emma Davies succeeded in gathering 1.5 points for the Norfolk team, whilst Jennifer Hide and Hannah Groom both walked away with 1 point each. Unfortunately the other matches were lost to a stronger opposition, but they were all hard fought.
The individual stableford was more successful for our girls, with Emma winning 2nd (on countback), and Edwina winning 3rd prize.
All the girls have worked very hard to reduce their handicaps this season, most notably Rebecca Heeles, who has moved down from 25 to 12 this summer, winning the Norfolk Handicap challenge in 2006, its first year.
The matchplay results indicate a promising future and although we will be losing Ceri Davies and Edwina Lowrey-Gold as juniors next year, there are girls to take over their positions. Under the captaincy of Tiffany Howie the team has shaped into a solid group of girls who will be able to take Norfolk’s junior golf forward.

Norfolk v Cambs & Hunts, at Bury St Edmunds on 23/9/06
The junior girls played their last match in the Midlands Division at Bury St Edmunds Golf Course last Saturday.
Having lost to Bedfordshire at John O’Gaunt by 4–2 in May, and won against Suffolk 5–1 at Swaffham in July, the girls had everything to play for.
All the four counties play their last match on the same day, at the same venue. Bedfordshire had 2 points, Suffolk and Norfolk both had one point and Cambs & Hunts zero.
Bedfordshire had to win their match to go through to the Finals, if Suffolk and Norfolk both won, the decision would be made on the total number of games won. At the start of the day Norfolk and Suffolk both had won 7 games in their previous two matches.
Norfolk v Cambs & Hunts teed off first. With a strong team led by Edwina Lowrey-Gold, the Norfolk girls, after a bit of a slow start, soon led in most of their matches. Edwina, Ceri and Hannah did not give their opponents many chances and they finished their matches on the 13th or 14th hole. Emma, Rebecca and Jennifer took their opponents to the 18th hole, with Emma and Rebecca winning 1 up. Jennifer started the 18th one down, and by that time we knew that the match behind us, Suffolk vs Bedfordshire, was going very well for Suffolk. We needed to win by more games than Suffolk, so every point was important and Jennifer did what she had to do, playing the final hole perfectly to halve the match.
Norfolk won 5 ½ - ½ and Suffolk won 5 – 1, so Norfolk won by half a point from Suffolk and go through to the Midlands Matchplay Finals, at John O’Gaunt on 23rd and 24th October. They will play the winners of the two other areas in the Midlands, Staffordshire and Lincolnshire.
This is the first time for many years that Norfolk will be represented in the Divisional Finals, and it shows that Junior Girls’ golf in the County has really taken off.
Results: (Norfolk players first)
Edwina Lowrey-Gold (Eaton) beat Miranda Brain 6&4
Emma Davies (Eaton) beat Amy Rae 1 up
Ceri Davies (Eaton) beat Tabby Brain 5&4
Rebecca Heeles (Royal Norwich) beat Sarah Smith 1 up
Jennifer Hide (Royal Norwich) halved with Bethany Peckham
Hannah Groom (Swaffham) beat Lauren Hunt 6 & 5
Reserve Jenny Henderson (Dunston Hall) made 20 stableford points on 10 holes to win the reserves friendly competition.
Other girls who contributed to the success in earlier matches are:
Tiffany Howie (Marriott Sprowston), Emily Willgrass (Eaton) and Kimberley Stimson (Thetford).
The final results of all matches in this division for 2006 were
Norfolk vs Bedfordshire 2 – 4
Suffolk vs Cambs & Hunts 6 - 0
Norfolk vs Suffolk 5 – 1
Bedfordshire vs Cambs & Hunts 5 –1
Norfolk vs Camb & Hunts 5 ½ – ½
Suffolk vs Bedfordshire 5 – 1
NORFOLK V SUFFOLK at Swaffham on 24/7/06
Result - Win 5 -1
Edwina Lowery-Gold beat Amanda Amy 4/2
Tiffany Howie beat Jo Taylor 3/2
Emily Willgrass lost to Nadine Williams 2/1
Emma Davies beat Cheryl Chisholm 1 up
Hannah Groom beat Charlotte Fawdry 6/5
Jennifer Hide beat Laura Wasdall 6/4
Inter County Challenge Shield held at The Bedfordshire Golf Club on Thursday 24th August, 2006.
Due to other commitments the Norfolk contingent consisted of just 3 girls, Rebecca Heeles (Royal Norwich/12 handicap), Jennifer Hide (Royal Norwich/14 handicap) in the Division 1 Medal competition, and Rachel Hide (Dereham/36 handicap) who played in the 13 hole Stableford competition.
The winning score in Division 1 was a Gross 78 (H/C 9) Net 69. Our girls tried extremely hard and scored as follows:
Rebecca Heeles 91-12-79 in 14th Place
Jennifer Hide 95-14-81 in 16th Place
The Stableford competition was won with a score of 21 points (13 holes)
Rachel Hide (10 years old) scored 16 points in her first outing on her own.
So Norfolk handed over the Inter County Shield to Suffolk with a net score of 142 (best two net scores from 3 in a team). Our two girls had a combined score of 160 net.
Norfolk will be back next year, hopefully with a much stronger challenge
