REBECCA BOWS OUT IN STYLE WITH HER 4TH JUNIOR TITLE
In her last year as a junior 17 year old Rebecca Heeles (Royal Norwich) won her 4th consecutive Norfolk Junior Championship title at Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club.
Rebecca returned a gross 77 to win the title by 4 shots from her close friend and rival Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer) on what proved to be a real test of golf on the sun baked links course, not helped by a coastal wind making club selection difficult.
In 3rd place was Maisy Turner of Hunstanton with a gross 82. Maisy also won the Nearest the Pin prize on the 7th.
The winner of the Handicap Plate was 13 year old Juliet Fenton (Kings Lynn) with a fine nett 70, one shot ahead of Natalie Cotton (Fakenham), nett 71 and Jessica Rutherford, nett 74, playing on her home course.
In total 19 girls played in the Championship with handicaps ranging from 2 to 27. The event was sponsored by turf specialists Rigby Taylor and Hayes & Storr, Solicitors.
The winners of the U/18 and U/16 age groups go forward to play in the Champion of Champions in Leicestershire in September. Unfortunately Rebecca (U/18) and Amber (U/16) will be unable to compete as they will be representing England in the annual Schools International match against Scotland which falls on the same weekend.
Girls in the 29-36 handicap range competed in a 13 hole Stableford, supported by Wilson Golf.
9 year old Megan Mann (Eaton) won the event with an excellent 29 points.
Sian Fenn-Green (The Norfolk) was runner-up with 25 points
Samantha Darling (Costessey Park) was 3rd with 21 points.
