The stage was set for an exciting climax to the County II finals day with Essex and Norfolk top of the league on 3 points each but Norfolk having won half a game more than their rivals. The morning session was very cold and Old Ford Manor was playing very long and Norfolk were 2 –1 down at lunch. Cambs. and Hunts could finish second if they won and so the matches were fiercely competed. Norfolk looked out of it when Eppie Zandvoort was 3 down with 3 to play but she halved the game, Sally Benton had gone1 down on 16 but won on 18 with a great shot across the water to the green and Jane Sheppard won 17 and held her nerve, on her inter county debut, to win on the 18th and get a halved match.
Runners up – we would all have settled for that at the start of the season but next year we have to try and raise our game to a slightly different level to aspire to be champions.

An “EPPIc” win for Norfolk on a course that was a tough golf challenge and the team had to play blind as there were no course planners or hole plans of any description.
The games were all close and the Norfolk girls battled against the element of uncertainty and heavy showers and proudly went into lunch 2:1 up. Having had the advantage of now knowing the layout and where to get into position there was a strong belief a win could be secured. The team were ready to take on the course and the thundery weather.
Possibly the pivotal point of the match was when Eppie sank a putt from off the green when she was 2 down with 3 to play and went on to win her match.
The result means that Norfolk have everything to play for on the Finals Day – Old Ford Manor on 16th August as all the teams have lost one match which the league delicately poised. Can we return victorious?
County II V Essex - Norfolk lost 5-4

Sharon Black & Sarah Steventon lost to Jo Rumsey and Siobhan Pamenter 4/2
Emma Davies & Sally Benton beat Emily Irons and Jo Herd 7/6
Tiffany Mills & Jessica Rutherford lost to Kate Minney and Amanda Colegate–Herbert 3/2
Emma Davies beat Siobhan Pamenter 5/4
Tiffany Mills lost to Amanda Colegate–Herbert 2/1
Sharon Black beat Kate Minney 4/3
Sarah Steventon halved with Emily Irons
Jessica Rutherford halved with Jo Herd
Sally Benton lost to Sarah Poultney 3/1
Essex won 5 to 4
Norfolk went into the game knowing they were going to have to be at their best to contain the visitors from Essex. A links challenge had been set at Gt.Yarmouth and Caister but nobody was really prepared for the extreme blustery winds that were more fitting of the Open Challenge you would have faced at St. Andrews. Even the County flag had to be taken down before it was lost to the North Sea. The match did produce an excellent golf contest and Emma Davies played exceptionally well with emphatic wins. Going into the afternoon Norfolk felt that they could blow the Essex girls away and they produced some creative golf and a great climax to the match. Jessica Rutherford claimed a well deserved half on her debut but sadly neither Mills nor Benton could secure the final point required to clinch the match. The team were brilliant and it was a huge disappointment to just fall at the last hurdle, especially as the team had avoided the racecourse for most of the day!
at Rookery Park Friday 4th June 2010
Shelly Pleasance and Iet Cuppens won 5/4 against Claire Ferguson and Alison Johstone
Eppie zandvoort and Tiffany Mills lost 3/1 to Jackie Moore and Kath Munday
Eppie Zandvoort beat Di Taylor 4/3
Sharon Black beat Kath Munday 1 up
Debbie Ogaaard Nielson beat Joanna Moore 4/3
Tiffany Mills beat Jackie Moore 6/5
Wendy Hancock lost 3/2 to Claire Ferguson
Sally Benton beat Alison Johstone 2/1
On a glorious sunny day County II had an unsteady start in the morning foursomes. Whilst Shelly Pleasance and Iet Cuppens had a comfortable win the rest of the team were not at their best and the team were 2-1 down at lunch. There was however a strong belief that if everyone could find their form then the singles matches could be won. The team delivered and rose to the challenge winning 5 of the 6 singles matches. It was good experience for two debutants to the Inter County golf league Shelly Pleasance and Wendy Hancock and shows the increasing strength and depth within the county II squad.
County II v Hertfordshire - Norfolk won 5 1/2 to 3 1/2

Tiffany Mills lost to Morag Morrison 3/1
Sharon Black beat Andrea King 4/3
Sarah Steventon beat Siobhan Griffiths 1up
Sally Benton lost to Sarah Poultney 3/2
On a glorious sunny day it was a “heart” warming start to the inter county league. The team was a blend of experience and new talent, Sharon Black having a fantastic start in her league debut.
On the first tee in the morning the flag was peppered by the tee shots and that was the start of birdies and eagles for the home and away teams. There was some exceptional golf from both teams but Norfolk held their nerve and held onto their narrow lead from the morning session through some good scrambling and course management. A great win!

The seniors with their finely tuned short games certainly gave the second team a master class lesson in chipping and putting and the match was halved 2-2.
Wendy Hancock had a promising debut for the seconds and came from behind to win in her foursomes match.

CountyII had a good test when they met a combined Eaton and Royal Norwich team at Eaton G.C. and a very close match was deservedly halved.
The players made the most of the spring conditions enjoying a bit of roll and Iet Cuppens was apparently unable to miss a putt.

County II sprang into action on a beautiful sunny day at Weston Park. The Norfolk Ladies Veterans had a strong, experienced team but the county girls eager to impress played some great golf. All the games were played in a great spirit and all the matches displayed some quality golf.
With 4 debutants in the team it bodes well for the future of county golf as there is plenty of talent available. There are players who are relatively new to golf, juniors coming up through the ranks and experienced campaigners who know how to win.
